Jack, It is not identical to most monitor connectors. I have a half dozen monitor cables and all of them are missing a pin 9 connection (I think it's pin 9 - it's one of the BAND pins in any case). If you don't plan to use the BAND signals, then you might be able to get by with a computer VGA cable. I could not find a cable with all 15 pins connected through from any of the usual vendors including Mouser, RadioShack, and any of the computer parts suppliers that I looked at. Someone on this group pointed me to http://www.cablewholesale.com/specs/svga-cable/10h1-20203.htm. I bought this cable and verified that it does have all 15 pins connected through and no pins shorted together and it is working well for me.
