Doug, *I* do that all the time - but I have a purpose, to align a K2 filter passband. In fact, I add noise at the antenna input with an Elecraft N-Gen. When listening to any band, if the ambient noise level is high, I turn off the preamp and even turn on the attenuator and in some cases reduce the RF Gain. The K3 has lots of reserve gain, and will even make no-signal band noise audible at a high level if all the controls are set for maximum gain..
If this fact is what those complaining of a "noisy K3" is all about, then I believe they need only to reduce the gain a bit - but some will not believe that no matter how many times it is repeated from various sources. 73, Don W3FPR DOUGLAS ZWIEBEL wrote: > Excuse me, but are all of you guys listening to NOISE ONLY?
