I noticed the same thing and found a note about it in the archives (TNX Don, W3FPR). Enabling CW Text Decode forces slow AGC. The Rev B1 Owner's Manual contained this note under Advanced Operating Features on page 31: "The K3 uses slow AGC during CW text decode, overriding the selected AGC setting."
I don't see the note in the Rev D5 manual but I may have missed it.
