I believe the one from Elecraft is just a normal one that uses the Prolific chipset, so it's nothing special. I just ordered my K3 yesterday and for simplicity's sake ordered their KUSB adapter along with.
So you probably won't be any better or worse off with the Elecraft adapter. In my case as long as I'll be able to get it to work with the K3 utility to talk to the K3, that's all I'm worried about.
