Michael, There's nothing I'd call difficult about building or re-building the K3. Tedious maybe, but not difficult. Building the kit will give you the understanding of how it goes together, and thus how it comes apart. Download the build manual and read it thoroughly before you order, it will give you a better look at the task. The manual does not cover all the options, some come with their own instructions.
You get 1 filter with the rig(2.7 5 pole). It won't work without it. I found the back panel to be the most tedious. I'd really not like to have to pull it to add something else. YMMV.
