I never turn the backlight higher than LCD-2. But even though I don't find it too bright for normal use I would occasionally like to turn it off altogether. Unfortunately when you do this the LEDs go super bright...
Anyhow, for reduciing the backlight brightness here is something else that might work... Rather than changing the resistor get some photographic "gel sheet" and insert it behind the display window.
