Hi Dave, Go to http://www.elecraft.com/ and clock on "K3 Mods + App Notes". Scroll down a couple entries and click on "IF Output Buffer Gain Modification" to get the complete instructions.
The resistor is a 13k by the way. The value is not critical; a 12k would work fine. It can either be a leaded or surface-mount type.
