Hmmm ... before building my K3 (just finished), I bought a wrist strap and mat from Cables Unlimited at under $25 for both. Aside from cables that are a little too short, them seem fine So long as there is a wire with a 1-megohm resistor between a conductive mat surface and common ground, what is to distinguish a "good" mat from one that won't really provide the protection?
