The P3 can indeed be used with the K2, but the K2 needs a buffer amplifier to isolate the IF output. Take a look at Jack Smith's Z10000B buffer amp at http://www.cliftonlaboratories.com/current_products.htm. He has a version especially for the K2.
If you transmitted into the XG1, it likely would have no ouptut (in which case the MAR must be replaced.
