I read this hint a few weeks ago, I don't remember where: The plastic shafts from cheap double-ended cotton swabs on a stick (you know, X-crips or something like that ;-) fit the power pole connectors perfectly, have enough friction to stay in place, are easily custom sized with a pair of side cutters, and are available in quantity cheaply at the dollar store.
