I have been using the Times series of crimp-on "N" male connectors with the captive center pin for the past 10+ years. In particular, IMHO, the Times EZ-400-NMH for use on LMR-400 has been a boon to the communications industry.
My group has installed thousands of them for use at 2.4 GHz and 5.8 GHz. No failures unless a tech made an install mistake with one of them. As Ken has indicated, they are highly recommended because of the potential pin migration problem AND for proper pin placement. Good luck to all.
