I'd said:

As I was saying before, I demonstated the Schwartz set by making dots
on
a paper, representing candidates. I drew an ellipse and said "These
candidates are unbeaten by the others". I drew a smaller ellipse in the ellipse
and
said that these also were unbeaten by anyone outside that smaller
ellipse, and that there were no more smaller ellipses in it. Obviously the
candidates in the inner ellipse are more qualified to win.

James A. replied:

That's cool, man.

I reply:

Thank you, James.

You continued:

I tend to draw little diagrams where one candidate
beating another is represented by an arrow, like this one. (The little
numbers are the strength of the defeat, in winning votes.)

I reply:

Very good, James. Probably most or all of us use such diagrams. It's called a directed graph. With the magnitude numbers, it's called a tournament.

Those graphs are great for counting elections among reasonably few candidates, but tbey aren't to be recommended for explaining SSD to people unfamiliar with voting systems, because, with all their arrows & numbers, they're much more compliated than necessary. Stick with the dots and ellipses.

You continued:

See... A, B, and C are in the Schwartz / Smith ? GETCHA / GOCHA /
minimal
dominant / minimal undominated set... and D ain't not in the nuthin'
set.
Ta-da!

I reply:

I'm sorry but the; meaning of that isn't entirely clear. If I could make a suggestion, you might not want to partake of recreational substances when posting to EM.

But of course there might be some who know just what you mean, and I wouldn't want to discourage you from tailoring your explanation to your audience.

You continued:

Here's a really crazy one... one that shows a different result for
beatpath and ranked pairs... I like to show people this one because it
makes it look like I'm working on something really occult!

I reply:

Another advantage of such an example is that it answers the question, when it's asked, about how RP & BeatpathWinner can give different results. Again, though, that too isn't to be recommended for introducing Condorcet to someone unfamililar with voting system.

Haha! These are taken from the Condorcet section of my survey
http://fc.antioch.edu/[EMAIL PROTECTED]/voting_methods/survey.htm

I do crazy little diagrams like this all the time. They are the source
of
my power...

I reply:

Go for it. But try not to post when you're all f***ed-up.
