Dear participants, Mike Ossipoff proposed the MinMax(wv) tie-breaking strategy. Now he claims that (by proposing this tie-breaking strategy) he proposed wv methods in general.
However, I argue that it cannot be said that Mike proposed wv methods in general because he didn't propose a general concept that could also be used for other methods than MinMax. Mike proposed his concept of "majority-rejected" candidates; with this concept he proposed his "Generalized Majority Criterion" (GMC); and he used this criterion to motivate the MinMax(wv) tie-breaking strategy. However, GMC is satisfied by no other wv tie-breaking strategy than MinMax(wv). Therefore, Mike proposed only the MinMax(wv) tie-breaking strategy but not wv methods in general. Nevertheless, Mike continues to claim that he proposed a general concept for wv methods. Therefore, I suggest that everybody should browse through the archives of this mailing list and decide whether he proposed only MinMax(wv) or whether he proposed a general concept that can also be used to motivate other wv methods than MinMax(wv). Mike motivates wv e.g. here: http://lists.electorama.com/htdig.cgi/election-methods-electorama.com/1996-March/000047.html http://lists.electorama.com/htdig.cgi/election-methods-electorama.com/1996-March/000075.html http://lists.electorama.com/htdig.cgi/election-methods-electorama.com/1996-March/000099.html http://lists.electorama.com/htdig.cgi/election-methods-electorama.com/1996-June/000470.html http://lists.electorama.com/htdig.cgi/election-methods-electorama.com/1996-June/000471.html http://lists.electorama.com/htdig.cgi/election-methods-electorama.com/1996-June/000495.html http://lists.electorama.com/htdig.cgi/election-methods-electorama.com/1996-June/000514.html http://lists.electorama.com/htdig.cgi/election-methods-electorama.com/1996-June/000547.html http://lists.electorama.com/htdig.cgi/election-methods-electorama.com/1996-July/000553.html http://lists.electorama.com/htdig.cgi/election-methods-electorama.com/1996-July/000569.html http://lists.electorama.com/htdig.cgi/election-methods-electorama.com/1996-July/000621.html http://lists.electorama.com/htdig.cgi/election-methods-electorama.com/1996-August/000673.html http://lists.electorama.com/htdig.cgi/election-methods-electorama.com/1996-September/000705.html http://lists.electorama.com/htdig.cgi/election-methods-electorama.com/1996-October/000745.html http://lists.electorama.com/htdig.cgi/election-methods-electorama.com/1996-October/000747.html http://lists.electorama.com/htdig.cgi/election-methods-electorama.com/1996-November/000826.html http://lists.electorama.com/htdig.cgi/election-methods-electorama.com/1996-November/000832.html http://lists.electorama.com/htdig.cgi/election-methods-electorama.com/1996-November/000844.html http://lists.electorama.com/htdig.cgi/election-methods-electorama.com/1996-November/000975.html http://lists.electorama.com/htdig.cgi/election-methods-electorama.com/1996-November/000976.html http://lists.electorama.com/htdig.cgi/election-methods-electorama.com/1996-November/000981.html http://lists.electorama.com/htdig.cgi/election-methods-electorama.com/1997-January/001273.html http://lists.electorama.com/htdig.cgi/election-methods-electorama.com/1997-February/001295.html Markus Schulze ---- Election-methods mailing list - see http://electorama.com/em for list info
