I tested on Ubuntu 10/Java1.6 with 3D and it should work if you are using
the latest jarfiles dowloaded from GNU/Staticfreesoftware

23429359 2012-07-31 10:53 electricBinary-9.02.jar
389874 2012-07-31 10:59 electricSFS-9.02.jar

java -classpath "electricBinary-9.02.jar:electricSFS-9.02.jar"
com.sun.electric.Launcher

Things you could do to test your environment.

- Run Electric and go to the 3D preferences (Preferences -> Display -> 3D).
If you don't see the 3D tab displaying the different layers, check the
Java3D installation on your computer. That is the first sign that Electric
is not finding Java3D via reflection.
- If you get the 3D preferences, run Electric with the flat "-debug" (java
-classpath "electricBinary-9.02.jar:electricSFS-9.02.jar"
com.sun.electric.Launcher -debug). See if you get any exception there.

Good luck

Gilda
