I'm on the Plymouth stuff, I've got quite some experience with that. I could use some help on gfxboot and other parts of the boot process, though.
You'd better polish Compiz before I land it because it's not easy to convert exported profiles to plugin defaults. I think I'll have to write a script for that eventually, but even then the defaults are not guaranteed to be easily editable.
