I am all for this, but if the ellipsis are going in translatable strings then I 
foresee that a lot of translators will replace them with the classic … as that 
is what they are used to. In that case we would be exactly where we are now.  

Regardless this is the style on Windows and OS X, it would be good to have that 
in common I think. It also is a minor change and fairly risk-free.
