search is not implemented in marlin yet.
What u're talking about is a builtin functionnality from Gtk.Treeview

Current folder search is undiscoverable and breaks the design

Bug description:
When I press Ctrl+F in Marlin, I get the current directory search box
popping up. It should clearly belong to the breadcrumbs bar, not open
a new ugly box.
Also it shouldn't be hidden behind Ctrl+F, all file browsers I tried
locate the names you type without the need for Ctrl+F.
