Hi AZorin, First off, thank you for contributing an idea! Unfortunately, we already beat you to the punch!.. sort of.
See http://elementaryos.org/docs/apis/contractor Contracts will be highly integrated into elementary apps. However, the method will vary a bit from what you described, at least to begin with. Songs/files/whatever could be sent to an Empathy(telepathy) friend. If that friend has a LAN account(or any other service), he or she will be able to receive files via a contract. I hope our solution is satisfactory. Keep brainstorming and keep in touch! ** Changed in: marlin Status: New => Invalid -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of elementary desktop team, which is the registrant for Marlin. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/852081 Title: Giver-like file sharing in Marlin Status in Marlin: Invalid Bug description: Giver (http://code.google.com/p/giver/ screenshot: http://goo.gl/9M0zF) used to be a really functional and handy program but it has been abandoned and no longer works in newer versions of Ubuntu (11.10 and up). The new version of Mac OS X (Lion) has adopted this feature (they call it Air Drop) in the file browser. Here's a video of it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5MAZAnX6MGY This would be a fantastic productivity feature that will make Marlin excel beyond other file browsers. It can be achieved by using the Avahi service to talk to other computers and by looking at the source code of Giver. At the moment this would work great with Marlin but this file sharing technology can be used in other elementary apps eg. Sending music from BeatBox to other computers using BeatBox.
