I've reopened this bug. I'd like to reconsider sending email alerts. Drupal is built to handle such alerts, and with "only" a few thousand users and single-recipient emails, it won't slow things down. To keep a bit of load off the server, we could always make it an option (like the RabbitBot notifications are now).
It'll bring people back a lot more. Specifically: answers to questions, comments on questions, replies to the user's comments, and PMs. It'd be different if every user of the site was emailed each time a comment or answer was made, but since in this case it'd be one recipient, it's definitely worth it. ** Summary changed: - if someone answers my question, send me an email + Send optional email alerts for different site actions. ** Description changed: If someone answers my question, I should get an email.
