Dear all,

I am using the library part of the elftoolchain together with LLVM for
my custom musl/clang based Linux OS (Aalbus), and I think this might be
a common use of this project.

Since there is a significant overlap between elftoolchain and llvm (for
example that both provide replacement utilities for binutils) and I am
guessing a significant overlap in downstream users (like FreeBSD), I
think it could be a mutually beneficial merger. Especially for you guys
since I think being under the LLVM umbrella would mean a lot more
eyeballs and mindshare.

Has this been discussed before and what are the reasons not to merge
with LLVM?
