Hi again: I've now compiled and installed elinks ver. 0.9.3 on my slackware 8.0 
system - and everything is working nicely. I tried the advice kindly given to 
Neon 
Absentius but to no avail. I suppose I am happier now... 
I understand Faux_Pseudo's remarks about the age of my slack ver. - but it's on 
an 
ancient laptop with only a floppy drive to boot from. It leads a very sheltered 
existence.
