No, I dont use any of those daemons... are there anything else that could
take up the sound. And why can rhythmbox play when gst-launch cannot?

The output from the GST_DEBUG thing is huge (> 3MB). Is there anything in
particular I should look for?

Maybe your audiodevice is already used by another application. Try:

GST_DEBUG=4 gst-launch-0.10 ...

Do you use a sound daemon like artsd or esd?
