Hello teams! Here is the report of the meeting Arnaud Quette, Lionel Martin (Elisa team leader), and myself had last week which was meant to start off an effective and productive UMC and Elisa collaboration.
1) Planning the future On the UMC side, the first release of the distribution will be synchronised with Ubuntu 7.10 Gutsy Gibbon (due on 18/10/2007) that will include the latest version of Elisa. Meanwhile, packages will be available in the official Gutsy archive, along with an unofficial Feisty one. Alpha and beta versions of the distribution will also be released. On the Elisa side, a stable development version (0.3) will be released in time for GUADEC (15/07/2007). It will feature: - code/API revamp: cleaner, easier, more possibilities - functionnalities close to the ones in version 0.1.6 - first draft of the personal video recorder (PVR) plugin (*very* demanded feature) 2) Weekly meeting A meeting will be held on a weekly basis on IRC (freenode network). They will be focused on reporting what has been done and what is still to be done to reach the plans. Next one will happen wednesday (13/06/2007) at 19:00 UTC (be careful french and spanish folks, for you it's 21:00) on #elisa. 3) Artwork Ubuntu Media Center needs a usplash theme, a logo and an Elisa theme. Also, Elisa needs a default theme. For the first iteration to be both in time and of good quality, we thought that a common theme, mixing both Elisa and UMC desires, would be best. Later on, the theme might split between two more specific themes. This requires the teams to work completely hand in hand on it. Christophe Dumas, Elisa's graphist, is going to kick off the work with some proposals. He will also work on UMC usplash and logo. Everything will be cross-posted on UMC's and Elisa's mailing lists. 4) UMC-Elisa representation To increase audiences and as a gesture of appreciation, both projects will fairly represent the other in all sorts of communication and in the user interfaces. 5) UMC-Elisa technical integration Since the UMC distribution (live cd and installed) will not launch a fully fledged desktop such as GNOME or KDE, some user interface bits will be needed in Elisa: - hardware configuration plugin - codecs installation plugin - for the live cd, a simple installation assistant (for a first version, that can be put aside) Have a pleasant night, and see you very soon. Florian
