Hi guys!

With the Elisa core team being back from holidays, an important
post-0.3.1 release meeting took place. A report is attached in this
e-mail and from now on, this should happen for every meeting.

If you have any questions, do not hesitate to ask on the mailing list or
over IRC.

Enjoy!

Elisa meeting report - 20/08/2007
---------------------------------

* Elisa team members will attend the Intel developer forum and demonstrate Elisa
on an embedded device. For that to happen, proper mouse support has to be
added
first to Pigment and then to Elisa.
=> loicm is taking care of the Pigment part

* A new release cycle is now set up:
  - one release every 4 weeks
  - one week of testing starting the monday before the release week
  - a release candidate will be prepared on the friday before the release week
  - the release will take place on tuesday
  - planning of the next release will then follow on wednesday

* Next release is planned for the 25th of september.

* Ubuntu packages of 0.3.1: if the package is not in Debian at the end of the
week, philn will prepare some unofficial ones.

* External communication: we are aware that Elisa and Pigment lack transparency
in their day to day development. A good start for us is going to be blogging
more
about all the cool features that are coming along.
From now on, we will publish our meeting reports so that anybody is able to
track
where we stand and what we are aiming at.
The websites will also get a lifting soon. This is an ongoing process: the
forum
set up a couple of months ago was quite a success with over 250 accounts
created.
Finally, a wiki page dealing with Elisa's long term goals will open soon.
=> lightyear is working on this last item

* Some highly priority design issues need to be solved for the next release
cycle
(fullscreen UI access for plugins #558, memory usage reduction #549).
=> kaleo is taking care of these

* Allan Day will be conducting a sociological study on Elisa and Pigment as
part of
his PhD and for that will contribute to their development. Welcome and good
luck!

* The Elisa Windows version is going to take some work: once Pigment's time
requirement will have been discussed with loicm, work should start with maybe
a new person on the Pigment team.

* Now that the 0.3.x rewrite step is behind us, and in order to keep
the quality high in terms of code and documentation for Elisa, some clearer
processes need to be written down.
=> kaleo is coming to an agreement on that

* Also in order to clean up after the rewrite rush, everyone will dedicate half
a day per week doing documentation & unit testing following the procedure in
  elisa/API_REVIEW_REMAINING.

* A new testing process has to be designed so that we avoid regressions:
a page on the wiki with tables referencing the tests and their latest results
  will be added
every test will have to be passed once on the supported operating systems
  before release
=> kaleo is responsible for that

* Non core plugins: a plugin repository is deeply needed as well as a plugin
configurator in Elisa to make it very easy to add, remove and configure
plugins.
It is also a big step towards releasing a usable Ubuntu Media Center.
=> philn will design it and make it happen

* Personal video recorder (aka. PVR or TV support)
=> lightyear has put together a roadmap
(https://core.fluendo.com/elisa/trac/wiki/RoadMap/Television)
and is about to start working on it
