Just to throw an idea, in Rails we optimistically redirect to the edge docs
precisely to support stable links in RC release notes in a straightforward
way.
The @v_edge and @s_edge locations here serve that goal:
https://github.com/rails/rails-docs-server/blob/master/config/nginx.conf
And the links in the release notes even include the version (eg /v5.2/...)
to be forward compatible. The version is ignored in the rewrite rule.
