I came across this thread <https://github.com/elm-lang/elm-platform/issues/63> which was very insightful. I was building on a Mac, but everything is fine after spinning up a vagrant box and following this blog post <https://alphydan.svbtle.com/elm-lang-on-ubuntu-14-04>.
