Ok, thanks. I think I can achieve what I want more easily with CSS - just 
move the 'input' div to be a child of the 'output' div, then set its width 
and height to 100% and it will track the size of the output div.

I wonder if some sort of ability to query the DOM for size and other 
information would be a good addition to Elm? Obviously not with a function 
as that will not always return the same value, but a Task would be right 
approach.
