Hello Mike, I have a HVR-950 and I have faced similar problem... I try to listen to tv with xawtv and tvtime but I was not able to get sound. A guy called Markus tells me that the HVR-950 only have digital audio signal... xawtv and tvtime works only with analog sound.
Try this: 1. Start xawtv 2. start a console and type this command: "sox -r 48000 -w -c 2 -t ossdsp /dev/dsp1 -t ossdsp /dev/dsp" (replace /dev/dsp1 by the dsp of your tv tuner, but it's probably /dev/dsp1) You should now here the audio. If it's working, that means that everything is ok. I use mplayer to listen to TV with sound without the need to use sox. Here the command I use: mplayer tv:// -tv driver=v4l2:alsa:immediatemode=0:adevice=hw.2 ,0:norm=ntsc:chanlist=us-bcast:channels=4-radiocanada If you want more information, look here: http://lunapark6.com/?p=2682&cp=3 Hope this help!
