The problem was with the mainline v4l-dvb driver (which is why the fix
was submitted to Mauro).
I have no reason to believe Markus's driver (which has it's own
codebase) had this issue.
For what it's worth, the ATSC HVR-950 support made it into 2.6.26rc1.
While the v4l-dvb repository has the Pinnacle changes, they might not
make it for 2.6.26. Depending on which kernel Ubuntu 8.10 ends up
pulling in, when you upgrade there's a chance you won't need any third
party code at all (it will "just work").

Good to know. The old code (v4l-experimental circa December 2007 from
Markus's repository) had that problem for a few people over on the
mythtv-users list including me, but the most recent did not.
About a two weeks ago I was able to get the mainline v4l-dvb to compile
and have the HVR950 working that way, but the pinnacle wasn't working as
yet.
If I went and grabbed the latest v4l-dvb from linuxTV and compiled that,
would both the Pinnacle and HVR be "just working" even if I kept my
current kernel (2.6.24-18)?
