Hi, everyone! There are some problems with the driver em28xx-new and patched tvtime distributed from mcentral.de
The installation of the driver passes smoothly, without complains. Em28xx: Initialized (Em2880 DVB Extension) extension then I started tvtime (taken from mcentral.de) with the following response in dmesg: tvp5150 3-005c: tvp5150am1 detected. opening radio device and trying to acquire exclusive lock em28xx-audio: device is currently in analog TV mode opening radio device and trying to acquire exclusive lock em28xx-audio: device is currently in analog TV mode Scan for channels works, finding all the channels, but at any channel independent of the strength of tv signal video in SECAM is highly distorted and unstable with wrong colors, with no sound at all. Switching to PAL mode results in much more stable video but black-white only, without any sound as well. Any attempts to tune a channel frequency do not change either the quality of video or absence of sound until the detunig is enough to leave the capture of signal. Other tv viewers show better quality of video. kdetv shows a good quality picture but with 1-2 splashes per second (like breaking the lines and frame syncronizations), if I choose the tv standard SECAM-K1 which is most appropriate for Russia. Experimenting with secam modes I have found that the _wrong_ video given by tvtime is reproduced if I choose SECAM-L instead of SECAM-K1, while switching between SECAM-K1 and SECAM-Lc has no result. Same was found for xawtv program. It is curious that when one start kdetv or xawtv and then one start the redirection for audio /usr/bin/sox -r 48000 -c 2 -t ossdsp /dev/dsp1 -t ossdsp /dev/dsp than video issues disappear and everything works fine. However for tvtime this way does not work since /dev/dsp1 is busy. Note also that switching mute-unmute mode does not influence on the video distortion at all. Has anybody ideas how to cure tvtime (or the driver?). In particular, concerning tvtime: is there a way to choose between different secam modes? And for the driver: it is not normal that video depends on audio in that strange way... As only a guess, can be that issues as a consequence of the overflow of some buffers in the driver? Regards, Oleg P.S.Note, that the prevoius driver with external firmwares works well, but it is unfortunately incompatible with the current kernel 2.6.27 used un suse-11.1.
