Hi All -- Does anyone know if there exists the following command in emacs: 
In dired, there is a command to issue a shell command on the currently 
selected file.  I have been searching for a corresponding command for the 
file associated with a buffer.  For example, on Mac, one could issue an 
open command to a current file that is a *.tex file and that would open 
the application (in my case TexShop) that typesets tex or latex files.  --
