No, that's different. The functions wouldn't be there if they were the same. Besides, people are working on a patch that will migrate the same functions to a frame parameter (as in X).

yes. Don't care about whether it's called a mode, as long as this can be controlled. A hook would do, of course, and a function to show the font panel.
Are there then also "modes" for all popup panels, e.g., open and save file, print, etc.?
These are modal dialogs that should actually be attached to a single frame.
Is there a binary build somewhere (of the Emacs 23 / Cocoa port, not of Emacs.app) to be downloaded?Not at the moment. After integration I may put up a 9.0-final, though it makes more sense to do this with the 23.1 release. I'm not opposed to others making binary releases and will provide access to emacs-app.sf.net if anyone wants to do this there.
Where do I find instructions on checking out and building Emacs 23 with your Cocoa port?
