But /home//:~//info will *not* be treated like /:~//info.
    Whether it's a bug or feature, I don't know, but I find it surprising.

I agree it would be more natural to change this.
Just because /: suppresses special treatment of following text
does not mean previous text must suppress special treatment of /:.

It has some chance of breaking something, but I think 
that is not likely to happen.
