This is on a i686-pc-linux-gnu Fedora Core 4 system. 

Do M-x grep RET
- --after 2 init emacs/lisp/term/xterm.el RET

The lines after the match contain a ^[[K like so:

xterm.el:29:(defun terminal-init-xterm ()
xterm.el-30-  "Terminal initialization function for xterm."
xterm.el-31-  ;; rxvt terminals sometimes set the TERM variable to "xterm", 
but

grep is version 2.5.1 (that comes with FC4)
