I'd still be interested in knowing what your text-copying use case is.
I sometimes use command history to turn an interactive command into a piece of lisp code to use later, or at least study how it was invoked, or reinvoke it on a variable instead of a literal string. Sorry, it's unclear to me what you are saying. Could you elaborate or be more specific?
