In my case, mostly incompatible bindings of keys, e.g. the tab key, especially 
in the context of auto-completion mechanisms and auto-expansion (e.g. 
yasnippet).  It's not so much unpredictable behaviour as wrong behaviour due to 
settings stepping on the toes of subsequently installed packages.
