i predict this will generate bug reports.

in particular pay close attention to restricted refile and whether
caching works for both it and unrestricted refile.

it is better to change the thing being cached to be faster if possible.

i agree speed is needed.

org's biggest issue imo is speed.  this will be increasingly apparent
as users use org for more data, moore's law falters, and emacs
continues to rely on a single core.

i am not saying don't change the default or change the default.

just saying if you do, then be careful.
