Dear all,
Some time ago, RMS asked me if Org mode can remove links to websites
running non-free JS from WORG.
I think we can remove most offenders fairly easily by replacing links
to youtube, github, and reddit with invidious, gothub, and redlib:
WDYT?
(TIL about gothub)
Which links exactly to replace? I've checked the orgweb repository[0] and found many links to GitHub
but none to YouTube or Reddit.
I also use some of these alternative frontends (Nitter, imginn.com, invidious, etc.) and while I
find these efforts laudable, in my experience they offer (in average) a less than stellar user
experience for a general user; these frontends are hosted on instances maintained by volunteers like
us with no uptime guarantees, sometimes gated by anti-AI challenges (exactly because they cannot
afford sustaining traffic from crawlers).
"gothub" in particular looks promising but still a bit immature, see an example:
https://gothub.lunar.icu/rust-lang/rust
I don't consider myself a "general" user :-) so I don't mind these inconveniences but I wouldn't
like to impose these restrictions on casual visitors and ultimately putting the Orgmode project
under a bad light.
I am curious to hear about others' experiences with these frontends, though!
(By the way, I wonder why RMS could not directly post the question himself
here?)
Best,
