Then when I started emacs I was getting problems with various latex files I was using, so I used an 'emacs.desktop' file from November 2024 which loaded with zero problems! So I can only conclude that I had a corrupted 'emacs.desktop' file, as since then I've opened the files which showed problems before and they're not showing any problems either. Sorry folks.
