Sure. That markup is indeed the most reliable (and can be used for intraword markup). But that is tangent. What I want to discuss here is the standard markup. Our standard markup aims to be *intuitive*. That's why it is important to address non-Latin languages - markup should be intuitive for everyone, not just for people writing in languages that happen to use spaces.
