Renato Ferreira noticed this regex issue and gave us a wonderful
solution which I have applied as commit aa63a7bd9
Debugger entered--Lisp error: (error "Stack overflow in
regexp matcher")
Confirmed.
I confirmed that this issue existed before commit aa63a7bd9.
After that commit, using your reproducer hit a different error in
'org-table-convert-region' which I have now fixed in commit
08830e013.
After both of those commits, your reproducer no longer errors for
me!
Fixed.
