What you described is an advanced use case which while interesting I'm not sure I fully understand. Whereas simply editing an outline in the style of most two-pane outliners is more of a basic function usable by everyone who needs to organize his thoughts. So more prominent featuring of this in the outlining section of the org-mode docs would be good... it really amplifies Org-Mode's power.
