This (as well as the agenda one) is supposed to be a global key binding, not an org-mode one: (global-set-key "\C-cl" 'org-store-link) (global-set-key "\C-ca" 'org-agenda) Let's assume that you just used it as a quick-n-dirty example however: as Achim suggests in the thread you point to, you should probably be modifying org-mode-map in an org-mode hook. That way, org.el[c] will have been loaded and org-mode-map will have been defined. If you insist on modifying org-mode-map outside of a hook, then adding (require 'org) before trying to set the key should work. But are you sure you really want to do that?
