I must admit I haven't actually tried any of my big beamer talks (hundreds of slides)... I've been too intimidated to do so! I have done a short talk but one with no special blocks, columns, etc. That worked very well. The only problem I had was figuring out how to tell the new exporter what level of headlines corresponded to frames... and I can't remember how I found out (#+OPTIONS: H:2)!
