If it looks good, maybe instrument the following functions: org-decrypt-entry org-crypt-key-for-heading M-x find-function RET org-decrypt-entry RET M-x edebug-defun RET M-x find-function RET org-crypt-key-for-heading RET M-x edebug-defun RET Then proceed with your test.
