I posted the reasons a while ago: Richard didn't like some details of the implementation, but simply following through on his suggestions would result in a sucky system. Thus it appears that yet-another exhausting flame-war/discussion is called for, and with the pressure of the release coming, it simply doesn't seem reasonable to rush it in and subsequently be stuck supporting something horrible. I'd rather get the release out quickly and do this stuff right.
