But in this context, (any string) doesn't make sense. There are
no strings to select in the Buffers menu.
A better wording would be:
<menu-bar> <buffer> (any buffer name)
You're proposing to make the text used vary from menu to menu.
This would make things a lot more complicated.
I don't want to consider such a complicated solution
because of a small problem.
I am willing to consider simple changes, though.
