This looks like a bug in Motif. Button 2 starts a drag for
drag and
drop, but it seems that menu traversal messes things up so the
pointer
and keyboard is grabbed but never released. The icon you see
is the
Motif drag and drop icon. I can reproduce this bug in other Motif
applications, so it is not an Emacs bug.
Could you put something in etc/PROBLEMS?
Now that the workaround is confirmed, I don't think it is needed.
After all, the normal way to open a menu in the menu bar is button 1,
so disabling button 2 is not that big a deal. And button 3 works also.
