Thank you very much for this information, Jan. For now, I'll use the Lucid toolkit version of Emacs. If this issue cannot get fixed in Emacs, then we need an entry in the PROBLEMS file for it, as it will hurt a lot of people. Looking back, I am rather surprised that I was the first to notice it.
