It works for me when printing Latin-9 (iso8859-15). But now, Latin-1
is also printed as Latin-9 (probably you are aware this since you say
it's a brute force method).

If it works correctly for Latin-1 and Latin-9, I'd strongly suggest to
add it to the trunk. Not being able to print Latin-9 is a serious
problem, IMHO.
